Networking Problem On Linux guest

Hi,

This is my first post and need help. I am new to ESX.

We have a ESX server 3.5 and have a guest VM whih has RHEL 5. We have installed the guest OS recently.

We are facing a issue with the guest System. It is not able to connect to the network. I have allocated the static Ip and is also in the same subnet of the mail Lan on the esx server.

Please suggest if there is any work around / limitation of RHEL5 on ESX server.

Virtual switch - did u mantion about the switch in the ESX server?

Yes, I talk about the vSwitches within ESX.

Is there anything to be done in the guest OS?

As I wrote, you have to install the VMware Tools.

Welcome to the forums!

Have you installed the VMWare Tools inside the guest? They give you the appropriate drivers beside other important things: http://pubs.vmware.com/vi3i_e35u2/admin/BSA_Creating_VMs.14.8.html

Have you created a virtual switch and assigned at least one physical NIC to it?

Have you assigned the virtual NIC of the guest to that switch?
