Need to migrate to new Storage Array for ESX 3.5 U4

Hi,

I have a project to migrate our existing SAN box to a new SAN (SUN 7110 storage). I see that there is a Storage Vmotion that is able to do this but it is for Vsphere. Is there any documentation or advise to do this seemlessly with minimum downtime?

Thanks once again!

Make the new storage visible for your host and migrate the vms to the new datastore.

If you use ESX 3.5 yes!

With vsphere you can do also a svmotion on powered on vms.

But you can look at this tool

.

But it is not supported really!!

Why can't you use the SVmotion with ESX 3.5 in this process?

You most certainly can use SVmotion with 3.5, I do this regularly. It can be done live (of course) as long as it does not have snapshots, and you have the choice between command line on the SC or you can put the SVmotion plugin on the vCenter Server. This is a freely available plugin, google can help you here Smiley Wink

svMotion works fine under 3.5.

As long as the appropriate license is in place of course.
