All,
I'm just getting into esxtop so please bare with me....When I look at some of the disks stats, I see all my disk I/O going through vmhba1. This seems odd to me because I've configured certain LUNs with fixed paths since I have multiple HBA ports. I figured I would spread the load over both my HBA ports.
So, if VC is set with a fixed path using port 2, how can esxtop report that I am using port 1 instead of port 2?
adam
ESX does not do load balancing. It's basically failover.
So it will use one or the other, that's why it's currently set to port 1.
It will use the primary port (evidently it's port 1 in this case).
It may not do load balancing, but shouldn't it go to the preferred/fixed path?

Yes, I would think it would.
I see all my disk I/O going through vmhba1.
We have discussed this a few days ago in a different thread. According to my tests, esxtop[/b] examines counters from the cannonical path on top of the multipath layer and not the SCSI LUNs.
No signs of life on the new HBA after changing preferred paths to LUNs[/url]
