NTP Issue

Hi,

I am currently having an issue where my ESX hosts are not correctly synching with my NTP server, the NTP server is a physical domain controller and has the correct time

but the ESX hosts in majority are picking up an incorrect time (1 hour behind).

The other thing I am confused about is that one of my ESX hosts has same config file settings etc but is picking up a different time zone (BST not GMT) and is

also the correct time?

ESX 3.01 Build 42829

HP Proliant BL20P G4 blades

1st ESX Host

Bios clock

Apr24 11:34:02 2007

clock command

date command

Apr 24 11:34:02 BST 2007

clock file

ZONE="Etc/GMT"

UTC=true

ARC=false

ntp.conf file

restrict 127.0.0.1

restrict default kod nomodify notrap

server .fwuk.fwc.com

driftfile /var/lib/ntp/drif

clock file

ZONE="Etc/GMT"

UTC=true

ARC=false

When I run the service ntpd restart command i have stopping, ntpd: Synchronizing with time server and starting service

The only thing I noticed is that you're using UTC time when this article says to configure UTC=false

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1436&slice...

And I assume you're following the instructions at http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1339&slice... to configure NTP

Yes I set it to false previously and no change so I reverted to default for my SR.

Would the time be one hour behind due to the clocks going forward 1 hour?

But I do not understand why it would not pick up the correct time via the DC?

Yes I have actually resolved this by overwriting the localtime file with the GB time zone file.
