NPIV Zoning

I have an ESX 3.5 host in a zone with a LUN from an EMC device.

I have a VM that has a raw device mapping to that LUN and I've set the generated new

WWNs under the NPIV settings. It gives me 1 node WWN and 4 port WWN.

When zoning the WWN of the vm, do I need to use the all the WWNs or just the node WWN?

Thanks,

Scott

You need all 4 port WWNs.

Thanks Mcowger.

There's something I still don't understand. The documentation I read states that you have to have a raw device mapping to enable the NPIV.

What if you didn't want to present disk to the vm, but wanted to zone it with a fibre attached library. How would you enable the NPIV?

And if you wanted another LUN presented to it, would you have to add another raw device mapping or could you just present another

LUN to the WWN of the vm?

Thanks,

Scott

The tape library would not be supported because you cant do an RDM to it, so you cant do NPIV.

For adding a LUN, you'd have to do the new RDM AND the NPIV WWNs, just like the first RDM.
