NFS Mount Delay

When I mount NFS filesystems on my ESX 3.0.1 host, the mount takes a few minutes to complete. I can mount the same filesystem on other servers and it mounts within seconds. I am not sure why the mount takes so long on my ESX host. Any ideas or things I can troubleshoot?

Are there any errors in the logs?

There could be something wrong in some of your fs.

Here is what is outputted to /var/log/messages during the mount command:

Mar 19 11:23:11 vm2 kernel: lockd_up: no pid, 4 users??

Mar 19 11:25:01 vm2 kernel: portmap: server localhost not responding, timed out

Mar 19 11:26:51 vm2 kernel: portmap: server localhost not responding, timed out

Mar 19 11:28:41 vm2 kernel: portmap: server localhost not responding, timed out

portmap is set for run level 3 right? (chkconfig). You can also consider adding a mount -a to your startup script. At least those are things I did in 2.x. Always test on dev host first :smileysilly:

default install of ESX 3.0.1 has portmap turned off in all runlevels. I started portmap and then the filesystem mounted up immediately.
