We virtualized our VC server and the folks that installed it for us only gave us a 20GB hard drive on Win2003. I know I can probably jump through hoops to increase the size of it. I know how to do it, but that's a hassle. We're on esx 3.5 and vc 2.5 installed about 11 months ago.
I'm hoping I can clean up unneeded files on the VC. Specifically some of the directories under:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Update Manager\Data\hostupdate\esx
I have subfolders called esx-3.0.3 and esx.3.5.0 and loads of folders under each with names similar to ESX350-200802305-SG, and many dated the date of install (3/08).
Is it safe to delete any of that stuff? I imagine I wouldn't want to delete the more current stuff (from 1-3 months ago) but I'd love to delete anything over 6 months if I can do that without breaking anything.
Thanks!
Here's a link to a good article on relocating the updates: http://networkadminkb.com/kb/Knowledge%20Base/VMWare/Changing%20VMWare%20Update%20Manager%20Patch%20...
Just hot add a disk to your VC server, stop the Update Manager Service, make the change, move your updates, and restart the Update Manager Service.

Oops, I can't edit, drat. Anyway, even better would be to be able to move the updates to another drive. Adding a drive is, of course, insanely easy.
Welcome to the forums.
Those files you are referring to, are associated with your Update Manager.
You probably want to resize the disk from 20GB to 30GB or more.
Eric has a good article on how to resize disks: http://www.vmware-land.com/Resizing_Virtual_Disks.html
