Multiple VNICs, Multiple VLANs, networking becomes unavailable

I have a virtual machine (print server) that I would like to be in two VLANs.

I attempted to achive this by giving the machine two VNICs, and putting each VNIC in a different port group.

One port group is connected to VLAN2 the ohter is connected to the default VM Network portgroup, where the VLAN ID is still set to "none" (this is fine for the moment, as not all the VLANs are active.

When I power on this machine, I lose all networking access, for all machines and the VI CLient, to this host.

If I manually stop the VM from the console (using vmware-cmd) newtorking works again.

If I de-select "connect this adapter on startup" for the VNIC in VLAN2, everything is happy.

What am I doing wrong?
