Mounting vmdk using vmware-mount.pl

Hi,

Can I use vmware-mount.pl to mount the vmdk files generated by ESX 3.0 ?

I am getting the following warnings and it fails.

Warning: VmfsExtentOpen: Vmfs not supported on this product

Warning: Unable to open the virtual hard disk "win2k3e192-74.vmdk": The specified feature isn't supported by this version.

Unable to invoke /usr/bin/vmware-loop. You may want to re-install VMware.

Is there a way to mount vmdk files used by esx 3.0 ? I also read somewhere that vmdk format is proprietary to vmware and not made public.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Prasad

I think vmware-mount.pl only works with Workstation/Server VMDK files I'm afraid. You could use VMware Converter to convert them to this format and then you should be able to mount them.

Any idea about vmdk-mount.exe (the disk mount utility ?)

This also did not work for esx 3.0 vmdk files. However the mountvm.exe which comes with VCB framework works fine.

So is there a way to mount esx 3.0 generated vmdk files? (other than mountvm.exe)
