Mounting NFS in VMware

Hi,

I am trying to connect ESX to an NFS datastore on a Windows box. Everytime I go to add storage I get the error:

Error during the configuration of the host: Cannon open volume: /vmfs/volumes/blahblahblah

If I check the Unix Services log on the WIndows box it says mount successful then immeidately after unmount successful. I have set permissions for Everyone to Full COntrol (which allows anonymous access), I have allowed root access. I have configured the NFS client to be allowed through the ESX firewall, the WIndows firewall has been disabled.

I have tried to manually mount the NFS share from the ESX Serivce Console to a mount point and this works, but it states the mount point directory as being owned by4294967294 (all other directories are woned by root in /mnt)

Any ideas?

Hello,

Check out Windows Services for Unix VMware Wiki to see how to setup SFU to work as an NFS server option.

Also you do have a vmkernel port setup for NFS? It is not on the same network as any other vmkernel/SC network? If so that could be the issue as well.

THanks,

I've got this fixed now. The issue is that I needed to copy the passwd and group files over to the Windows host and create a user map for root against a Windows user with permission to that share.

Thanks
