Monitoring an ESX 3 server

Hi,

I was just wondering what people are using to monitor their ESX servers. We use monitoring software for our windows servers that will alert us for example when a hard drive fails - is there anything similar for ESX?

TIA,

-H

We predominently use HP kit and HP provide management agents which are installed within the Service Console - this allows the hardware to be monitored using HP SIM just like any other piece of HP hardware.

I guess it depends on your hardware vendor.

We are using a mixture of Dell & HP.

Are the HP monitoring kits free?

We are a Dell shop and we use its OpenManage for hardware monitoring - the install document is located:

And within the install document it has links to obtaining the OpenManage software.

And yes it's free.

Check the eG VMware Monitor - http://www.eginnovations.com/web/vmware.htm - it can monitor your VMs and also the guest OSs.
