But now we are facing major problem of monitoring guest OS uptime. Please let me know do we have tool in VMWARE that will monitor the Guest OS avaibility & trigger a alert incase of gust OS is down.

Thanks & Regards

Assuming you're using VirtualCenter, you can configure it to send SNMP alerts to a 3rd party monitoring tools. Otherwise you might want to check out Nagios as discussed here: http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=657979&#657979

Hi Walter!

There isn't a specific tool (that I know of) in VMWare. Because VMWare emulates a hardware platform, if the guest OS has a software error, the host probably won't know about it. All you really have to go on is the power state.

Probably your best way of doing this would to have a monitoring server ping the guest OS's IP address, or issue an SNMP query, and check the result of that - same as you would if you were monitoring the OS on a physical machine..

I hope this information helps you. If it does, please consider awarding points with the 'Helpful' or 'Correct' buttons. If it doesn't help you, please ask for clarification!
