Monitor LUNs....

hi guys

I've been searching for a tool to monitor and send alerts - emails - when the LUNs o storage usage exceeds for instance 90%.

is it true that Veam Monitor the Free Edition can do that?

os is there another to to monitor and alert?

thanks a lot

Most of the time one LUN holds one VMFS datastore so you can use the vCenter alarms.

What about the tools the storage vendor provides?

Huh, that may be possible (looooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago that I used that version), but if you have an active support subscription you can move to the vSphere vCenter and that has such alarms.

What about the Event Monitor service? Isn't it included with the DS?

Remember, to monitor a LUN the tool must be able to see the LUN (zoning, masking) or use other storage dependent mechanisms. Most of the time the monitor host must be attached to the storage itself (via FC, for example).

I think you're best off with the IBM tools.

We use IBM netcool and it alerts us the moment the free space in the datastore goes less than 10%

Thanks
