Migrating VM from ESX 2.5 to 3.5 - Retain MAC address?

Hi all,

We are planning to migrate a virtual machine from VMware 2.5 to 3.5 via VMware Converter.

For this machine specically we need to retain the same MAC address on the 3.5 environment or else we will have problems with a license server.

The MAC address that the machine has is 00-50-56-B7-XX-XX (Which means this is a Virtual Centre generated MAC address)

I have been reading some documentation from VMware and blogs and VMware states that:

if you apply static MAC address

"The MAC address range is

00:50:56:00:00:00-00:50:56:3F:FF:FF You can set the addresses"

So my question is if I assign the above MAC address to the NIC when it is on the 3.5 environment will VC let me assign this address as while its part of the VMware OUI it is higher than 3F range?

e.g. 3F to Decimal is - 63

       B7 to decimal is - 183

Not sure If I have read this wrong but if any one can confirm if it works or post your solution it would be great.

Cheers!
