Migrate to SAN

I have a ESX Server version 3.1 on an IBM Blade Server HS21 with two VM Sessions. Recently, I installed an HBA on the blade Server and fiber connected to a SAN. The 100 GB partition from the SAN is presented to the ESX Server. I know want to move my VM Session files from the local Blade Hard Drive to the SAN.

What files should I move and what is the procedure to make this move?

I have VC 2.0 but how do I migrate to the same host

and what files need to move to the SAN.

When you migrate the VM, you're going to keep it on the same blade, but after you put the HBA in it will ask you what storage you want it to go to. THat's when you'll pick the SAN storage. Essentially it will keep your VM registered on the existing blade host, but move the storage from local to SAN.

You could migrate each vm to the same host and just choosing the new datastore for the move.

DB

That's assuming you have VC.

As I indicated in my email to you,

You have ESX Server version 3.0.1, not 3.1

Power down your VMs and use VirtualCenter to relocate your storage

The HBA is already in and the partition has already been presented to the VC. So I shut down the VM, went into Migrate to New Host Wizard and select to move the files to the SAN partition. I am waiting for it to finish and then test.
