Managing ESX hosts as part of seperate VMFS clusters

Hi Guys,

I am interested in managing two ESX servers by keeping them in seperate VMFS clusters, but using the same LUN. Is this possible? Can anyone suggest how to do that?

I have tried managing the 2 ESX servers using seperate Virtual Center Servers, but looks like they still become part of the same VMFS. Why is this happening?

Thanks for your help.

You could create separate vmfs volumes on one LUN, but if it's visible to the host, it will see it. It's probably not a good idea. The gui doesn't allow you to do this - you'll have to do it with fdisk.

Does this mean that even if I have two seperate VMFS volumes on one ESX server, they would still become part of a single VMFS cluster? The reason I am asking this is because I have three ESX servers - ESX1, ESX2 and ESX3. I am sharing a volume between ESX1 and ESX2; and another volume between ESX2 and ESX3. So, is there a way to ensure that there is one VMFS cluster between ESX1 and ESX2; and another between ESX2 and ESX3?

Thanks.
