Login to ESX takes very long

Hello,

logging on to the ESX server from the VI Client logon screen takes quite long for me (approx. 1min).

Is there a way to speed up the logon process?

I have an ESX Server 3.0.1 and connect to it directly from the VI client. The two are connected with each other by a dedicated 100MBit switch.

Name resolution taking a long time? If you use the IP address is it faster?

Ive seen issues like these but they turned out to be DNS related.. From the HOST your login in from, can you ping the ESX Servers name..?

Make sure the machine you connect FROM is also in the DNS, and that reverse lookup (ip->name) works properly from he ESX server.

By default, the client first tries to login using port 80, then if that does not work, it moves to port 902.

Try logging in to your vc server with port 902 appended to the server name :902

server>myvcserver:902

That should force it to use port 902 immediately and hasten your login.
