Link aggregation

Hello, i am new to ESX 3.x so i appologize if im asking a stupid question or one that has already been answerd. I searched but found nothing.

Our ESX server has (2) Broadcom Gb NICs. We want to setup link aggregation/802.3ad from guests OS's to the physical switch to get the maximum speed from the guest to the switch. How is this done?

We do alot of databasing from another physical machine to virtual machines and need to maximize the link speed. We have a managed switch Dell 2716 if this helps. The switch support up to 6 linked groups.

Thanks

You will want to team your nics and load balance with ip hash. You don't need to do anything special to the VM's. You wont be able to exceed the capacity of a single link on a per VM basis, but all you VM's will be load balanced evenly (inbound+outbound) over the pair. PM me if you need config assistants with the dell switch.

Here are two great papers to review.

Hope this helps.
