Licensing additional servers

We're deploying VI3 to an HP c-Class blade enclosure & SAN with the intention of (initially) deploying onto two full-height blades, and have 6 half-height blades for Exchange & Citrix etc.

I was wondering if it is feasible to create a couple of ESX installs to boot-from-SAN storage on the half-height blades so that, should one of the full-heights fail, we could "re-deploy" a half-height temporarily simply by booting it from the SAN image previously created.

From what I have read of the licensing, when using a licensing server licenses are pulled from & returned to the "pool" as each ESX box starts / stops. In theory then, I should be able to start another box in its place, yes?

Clarification would be appreciated...

Regards,

Paul

It's pretty much the case.

It's not a fully automated process though.

You'll need to manually change the licence settings on the servers you're adding to point at the licence server and likewise the outgoing server needs to be forced to release the licence.

That's good enough for me - many thanks!
