Learning ESX

Hi,

I wanted to find out what is the best way to learn ESX. I am good with basic server virtualization using MS V software and VMWare Workstation products but have never used ESX product. I would like to setup a small environment to learn the product but unfortunately I do not have a SAN environment etc; Just a PC (and a laptop).

Any recommendations?

Thank you.

Might take a look at this site to see about running an evaluation copy of ESX on your workstation installation.

Hello.

You can run ESX in a virtual machine under VMware Workstation. You can also get things like OpenFiler (for iSCSI and NFS) to run on virtual machines under Workstation as well. It won't be fast, but its definitely usable for learning the product. Just about everything else you need can be found at the VMware Documentation site. If you get stumped, then bring your questions to the forums.

Good Luck!

I would defintley recommend you get on the install and configure course at a minimum as this gives a really good view of the configration process of virtual infrastructure.

Until then installing ESX in a test environment such as vmware workstation will suffice.
