Latency in i/o

Hi,

We have a HP DL380 G5 Server.

1 Quad Core 2.83 GHz CPU.

12GB RAM,146 x 3 GB HDD in RAID 5

We have VMware ESX 3.5 update 3 installed as the host OS.

We have installed 1 VM with Windows 2003 Enterprise 64 bit edition with 200GB virtual hard disk space,8GB memory,2 Nics.

When i try to copy data from the Host DVD ROM to the Virtual machine which is running Windows 2003,the transfer rate is too slow and it takes around 40mins to copy a 4GB of data. While in normal senario in physical enviroment it should not take more than 4 Mins.I tried copying data from the c drive of the vm to the same drive and i face similiar kind of latency.

Please help,Your suggestions are welcome.

When you say you are copying the data from the c drive of the VM to the 'same drive', are you referring to the DVD drive or another drive? What happens when you mount an .iso file to the virtual CD of the VM? Are copy times still slow?

Ya true,Even when i mount an ISO and tries to copy the file into the C drive of the same VM it takes longer time i.e around 10 times more than that on the physical server.
