Is there anyway to VMotiom w/o VC?

Lost my VC due to heat and I would like to VMotion some of my VMs off half my servers so I can shut them down before heat gets them... MUI?

Anyone know hot to intiate maintenace mode throught the SC?

Thanks

No way to do it without the VC.

You can inititate maint. mode from the SC, but it wont start Vmotions without VC around.

No way to VMotion without VC. If possible, you could bring up a new VC on one of the ESX hosts, but sounds like you're fighting some time constraints.

hi,

well actually there is one workaround. I perform the below operations, when my VC is down or networking probs and i need to have access to my VMs.

1. Log in the VI of the first ESX and put the VM in suspend state by right clicking and suspend.

2. Log in service console of the first ESX and unregister the VM from the first esx box by vmware-cmd -s unregister /vmfs/volumes/storage_common/WIN2K3_32.vmx

3. Log in the service console of the second ESX and register the VM from the second esx box by vmware-cmd -s register /vmfs/volumes/storage_common/WIN2K3_32.vmx

4. Log in to the VI of the second ESX and select power on.

Hello,

Not quite VMotion but should work just fine if you have shared storage and can handle the downtime associated with the suspended VM. Good idea.
