Not installed an ESX server before - best advice sought please!
On our DL580G4 (6x146GB local storage) (to be used as a test envt) I was planning to use a RAID5 (5 disks) + 1 as a hotspare (6 in total).
Does this all get configured prior to installing ESX, or from within ESX?

You can check this out for your self.
Just press F(8) when the server is booting (after 45 secs of so), there you enter the raid controller config.
See if it helps,

Your ESX Install is not responsible for the RAID Subsystem.
You would either set your RAID up from a CD or from onbrd Bios..
ESX Will then install on your RAID.
