I had a VM with two vmdks, each on a different LUN. I decided to migrate the VM to the ESX host it was already running on and choose the option to move the configuration and disk files. I only made it move the 2nd vmdk from LUN 001 to LUN 003. This vmdk is about 100Gb and its taking almost an hour now.
When looking at esxtop on the esx host I see the following:

Can someone tell me if the 27.85 MBRead/S and MBWRTN/S is a good speed? We're connected through FC to a IBM SVC SAN. There is almost no load on the ESX host.

30 MB/sek, I can reach it too, don't think that's bad.
I've just completed the exact same thing and I only managed 12.xx for MBREAD and MBWRITE.
I'm moving about 16GB of vmdk from one LUN to another.

How did you get to see the transfer data via esxtop?
I do not get that view, just CPU data.

Since you are doing a LUN to LUN copy, you are copying the data to the ESX host at 27.85MB/sec, then copying from ESX host to new LUN at 27.88MB/sec for a total throughput of 55.73MB/sec across your FC. While not blazing speed (slower than local storage actually), its usable. I don't think you'll squeeze much more out of that model SAN.
But anyway, 27.85MB/sec translates to about 97.91GB/hour, so it shoudl be done soon.
