Hi there
I am trying to install VMWare Server on my Sony laptop, everything goes fine until I get into the GUI mode during installation where when i click next I get an error saying " The installer was unable to find any supported network devices. Press OK to reboot your system". I do not understand why this is happening as I have got inbuilt Intel Pro/100 network adapter on my laptop. The only difference is the adapter I have got is Intel PRO/100 VE and the requirements section says Intel PRO/100. Do you think this might be causing the problem?
Thanks.
ESX has very specific hardware requirements, and I'm guessing that even if you get past the networking challenge, you will hit other problems. The systems compatibility guide (and other guides) are available here: http://www.vmware.com/resources/guides.html
The Pro/100 VE is a desktop adapter; according to the I/O compatibility guide, ESX will probably only work with server adapters. (There are some significiant under-the-hood differences between these adapters.)
You may have more luck in getting the basics to work by following one of the cookbooks at http://www.xtravirt.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=99&Itemid=124, which explains how to install VMware ESX 3.0.x inside VMware Workstation.
