Importing a vmdk file into ESX 3.1

I wonder if anyone can offer me some advice.

Using Symantec Backup Exec Server Recovery 7.0 I took an image of a physical Windows 2000 server. I then converted this to a .vhdk file. And copied the file to my esx server using WinSCP

I am now trying to get this to run in a virtual machine in my ESX Server.

I have tried creating a new virtual machine and adding a existing virtual disk but when I browse to my file location on the esx server it can not find the file.

However it appears on the datastore and through WinSCP.

How did you convert the file to a vmdk? Check out the VM converter. It is probably what you want to use to do P2V's.

I dont know the product you are using the symantec backup.

But how did you convert to vmdk this is one question ?

Also use vmkfstools -i your.vmdk to import this vmdk to the esx server.

Then go and try and add the server in the vi client.
