How to understand the number of sockets in a BOX ?

Hi,

I have multiple dell 6950 servers. I know to get the number of sockets in the box, I can check it by going to the Dell website. How, can I check the the same, when I see it from the summary page of that box in VC server. OR somewhere else in ESX box?

For ex

I see for one of my host in VC

Model: Poweredge 6950

Processors: 8CPU x 2.792 Ghz

Processor type: Dual Core AMD Operton(tm) Processor 8220

Am I correct by saying it has 4 sockets ? On each socket, there is a dual core.

I'd say you're spot on - 4 sockets, dual core CPUs.

You can select the host, click on the "Configuration" tab and then "Processors". It should list the number of sockets and cores/threads per socket.

configuration tab on the esx host and click on processor, it will show you how many sockets, spec and speed
