Is it possible to find out the information about physical host (e.g. IP address) from within the guest OS, e.g. liunx?
I am looking some script/command that I could run in the linux guest OS to get this info.

the guest has no idea of the underlying hypervisor (hardware). So, getting this information from the guest, I will not say impossible, but not likely to happen.
I have seen that this kind of information is visible in vCenter, so would it be possible to extract it through some vCenter API call?
Yes, you can... But you need to talk with vCenter with RCLI or PowerCLI.
