How to enable EVC on ProLiant BL460c G1 with ESX 3.5 u3

Hello!

Does anyone knows if there is any specific setting that need to been done in BIOS on HP Blade servers BL460C G1 to get EVC working?

I have looked in the "Basic System Administrator" guide but it does not discuss if there is any specific settings that need to be done in Bios of (HP Intel) servers.

Has anyone done this and if so what was your "step by step" to get everything right in the end.

Just want to be sure about this before we start Smiley Happy

Thanks everyone!

I've only done this for my HP DL360 G5's but the BIOS might be similar. If so, you will find these settings under "advanced options" and then "processor options", you will need to enable "Inter® Virtualization Technology" and "No-Execute Memory Protection". Hope it helps!

Check BIOS and make sure nx/xd bit and Intel_VT/AMD_V is enabled. Both are required for enabling EVC.

OK Thank's. So these are the only two settings you need to Enable to get it right?

Just to be safe, the steps are

- In Bios select "Advanced Options"

- then "Processor Options"

- Enable "No-Execute Memory Protection" and "Intel(R) Virtualization Technology"

Yes, I did this three hours ago on a DL360, I had forgotten the No-Execute option which made the host show as incompatible for EVC, after enabling it and rebooting the problem was fixed. Note that once NX is enabled, you can choose to hide or expose the flag to each VM, hiding it should increase vmotion compatibility between hosts, depending on the configuration on the rest of your hosts.
