Our network department wants MAC addresses to create DHCP reservations for all systems with a fixed IP.
We handed over all virtual MAC Addresses of all service consoles on our ESX 3.5 U4 machines. This works.
After reinstalling an ESX after a disk failure, our service console MAC has changed. I'm looking for a way to configure it to the MAC address of the former esx server installation.
Is it possible somehow?
Edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-vswif0 and restart network.

Hi
Are you sure you did not put the Service console on one of the other nics ? I am pretty sure the mac address is the actual "hardware" mac.

Lars, Service Console uses virtual NIC with autogenerated MAC from VMware pool (00:50:56).
You can see this MAC in Service Console properties, or directly in the file I specified above.

Sometimes ESX admin and DHCP admin are different people

Every change in network environment needs to be done by another department, with a change procedure, and usually takes 3 or 4 days for a non critical change.
By changing the mac address it's much quicker, no documentation has to be changed, and no other people are involved.
