How to Patch ESX 3.0.1

This is a total novice question:

What is the step-by-step to getting patches from a Windows pc installed on an ESX host?

FTP steps > ESX commands > Etc...

Thanks!

Have you seen this tread?

If you plan todo it manually, read about esxupdate;

http://www.vmware.com/pdf/esx3_esxupdate.pdf

Then you need a SCP program to copy the patches to the ESX host;

Good luck.

Basically you can download the patches, use WinSCP to copy them to the ESX host and then install them. Optionally you can map to a Windows servers and install them from there.

Here are some links that will help:

I would definitely recommend using the process mentioned below found in this thread http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=77514&tstart=0

I have been using it just as a test over the last few days and it's been working perfectly.

Guide found here - http://vmprofessional.com/material/esx-autopatch.html

I have created a new user through VI and added them to the root group as well as assigned the administrator role.

I'm attempting to use WinSCP to copy the files, however I'm getting a permissions error - what gives?

I used the thread you referenced to install all 34 patches. Everything went off without a hitch on the first shot... how often does that happen??

Kudos to Dominic for putting it together!

Thanks guys for all of your contributions...
