How to Increase LUN block Size

Dear all,

please help me about my problem.

i have 800GB LUN,

in this LUN two vertual machine already running, block size 1MB

i want to add another vertual machinte which need 500GB space which have this LUN.

But i can not create 500GB partion in this LUN, Pls help me How can i increase LUN block size 1MB to 2MB.

You will need to copy off or backup your vms and then reformat the vmfs with the bigger block size. Your target vm size is close to 512 so you may even want to reformat with 3MB just to be safe in case it grows and then you have to do this all over again. After teh reformart copy or restore your vms back and then you are g2g.

You can use storage vmotion to migrate your VM's while they are online if the host is managed by vCenter 2.5

No you cant do this dynamically. However with storage vMotion you can do this with no downtime, providing enough storage space is free.

You will have to create another 800GB LUN

Create a VMFS and set the block size to your desired size 2mb.

Storage vMotion the VMs to the new VMFS/LUN with 2mb block size.

Delete the old 1mb block size VMFS.

OR

Create a new LUN specifically for this new VM with large disks.
