Hi Friends,
I have some questions about the resource utilization of the ESX Server.
1) Surpposed we have a 32GHZ cpu, esx Server. How much GHZ can be used by the Virtual Machines? 32GHZ * 10%?
2) When all the virtual machine are use the resource to 50%, does it mean the ESX Server's resouce utilzation is 50%?
Thanks.
If the VM only has 1 virtual CPU, the VM will only use one of the core's total processing power. You can't span a single virtual CPU across multiple core.
If a VM needs to use the CPU for some work, ESX will schedule the VM to put that onto 1 core until 20milliseconds has past and then ESX decides if it needs to continue using that CPU.
So if 1 core of your server is 2Ghz, and the VM has 1 virtual CPU, the VM will use 2ghz of CPU.
2) What resource are you talking about? CPU? Network? Memory? Disk?
thanks
I means the Cpu and mem?
If the VM is at 50% cpu and memory usage, that is just 50% of the resources that are assigned to that VM, not 50% of the ESX resources
