How does ESX calculate uptime?

All,

I just noticed that the vmksummary.txt file on one of my hosts is showing an uptime of 1708 days. Pretty funny given that the server is only about 700 days old. What's really odd is that the top of the report says the time period is from Aug 2007 - Nov 2008. So...how does host go about is uptime calculations?

that's weird... Here is what I found for the definition

VMkernel Summary - /var/log/vmksummary - Used to determine uptime and availability statistics for ESX Server; readable summary found in /var/log/vmksummary.txt

I just looked at mine and the statistics are reporting correctly.

The Total Time you see is a combination of uptime and downtime

Note: Downtime is any time the system isn't capable of running Virtual Machines. This includes reboots, crashes, configuration and running linux
