How do you access one vm template from two different vc's?

We have a dev and prod environment with two copies of each golden master vm. Each virtual center and hosts are connected to a different fc san's.

I would like to maintain one copy or each golden master and be able to clone/deploy to both environments.

How are you doing this? Thanks

convert the template in question to a virtual machine, and then use VMware Converter to copy it to the other environment. Once completed convert both VM's back to templates.

I suppose the only good way is what Troy said - to have 2 templates, one for each vCenter.

You cannot have 2 templates linked to one VM. Not sure if can register one VM in 2 vCenters, but if you can - solution is to have VM as a template and deploy VMs from "template" via cloning with customization.

It doesnt really matter to me if they are in vm or template form. I dont want to maintain/update both images.

I only want one golden template/vm to have to update across multiple vc's. Not possible?

not possible. You cannot deploy a template across vCenter instances. So, you would have to have the same template in both instances.

What about an nfs share? I thought I heard of this being done somehow in the past.

As you know having two images of every OS flavor out there to maintain is compounding work.

if a template or clone is managed by vCenterA, then you cannot deploy it to vCenterB
