? ? ? Host Mem - MB ? ? ?

Can anyone tell me, what is the exact meaning of "Host Mem - MB"?

Am very much confused about what it represents? I am expecting crystal clear explanation about this.

Thanks,

Ganesh

Hi,

Memory Assigned = Maximum amount of physical memory this VM can use from the host

Being used active = Memory pages the VM is actively using as a %

Host Mem - MB = Physical memory currently allocated from the host to the VM.

The difference between Memory Assigned and Host Mem is due technologies within ESX that allow you to overcommit physical memory. Some of these (transparent page sharing) operate even if you are not over committing physical memory.

Trust this helps.

Host Mem MB is the amount of physical RAM a VM is currently using on the ESX host. This vary based on ESX's memory saving techniques and the amount of memory usage of the virtual machine.

Can't getting your words!!!

VM-AAA is utilizing 1% of memory out of its 8192 MB. Then what does the figure 8055 mean ?

VM-BBB is utilizing 4% of memory out of its 8192 MB. Then what does the figure 7502 mean ?

Hope this example will help you to define the thing best. Please . . . (Thanks for your previous post - idle-jam)

Guest Mem % is the amount RAM assigned to the guest that is actually being used active by the guest os. Hope with my 2 explaination it would help you clear things up.

Sorry Jam. Still the things are in whirl.

In AAA:

Memory Assigned : 8192 MB

Being used active : 1% means 8.192 MB

Host Mem - MB : 8055 ( What the hell it (8055) represents ? ? ?)

In the previous post, you described about the Guest Mem %. I know what it is.

You have assigned 8192MB for the virtual machine. That would be the max limit of the memory limit before it is being memory balloon, swap and paging.

With VMware advance memory technique like transparent page sharing and memory compression .. Host Mem MB is the the actual memory usage of the VM after deducting transparent page sharing.
