Has somebody performance experience with SQL Server 2005 ?

Hi ,

I am thinking to install a SQL 2005 server on a new ESX Server.

We want to use Windows 2003 R2 \*64 bit* and a SQL Server 2005 \*64bit* .

Does it work under ESX 3.x ? Is it supported?

How is the performance compared to a physical machine?

We will create 4 DBs on this machine.

Thx a lot

Greetings

Wolfgang

Yes, this software is supported.

The performance will depend entirely on the workload. As long as you have decent back-end storage (ie. a good SAN or an appropriately sized local disk array with numerous disks and likely RAID-10 config) you should see very good performance.

It is impossible to tell you what the performance is going to be like because the workloads aren't known. Why not build a test/dev box, run some tests, and let us know? Smiley Happy

Wolfgang - How did it go with SQL Server 2005 in a VM? Any details, tips or best practices you can share with the community? Thanks.
