Hardware Health For Host Unknown

When I clcik on my VMCluster and then on the "Hosts" tab within the VI Client, I see my two hosts sitting there. Both are connected, and both have green (Good!) status lights. However, on one of my hosts, the Hardware Health is showing as unknown. Do have a problem I don't know about? How do I force it possibly to go out and obtain the health....on the fly? Also, can you attach screenshots within a community discussion?

Hello,

It's not an uncommon event. Usually restarting the mgmt-vmware service on the host will correct it.

At the console

service mgmt-vmware restart

What is the machine model? Is it on the hardware compatbility list?

They are twins. Dell PowerEdge 2950 systems. 16GIG RAM apiece.

Oh, and sorry, yes they are on the hardware compatiability list. One is reporting health fine...the other isn't.

Can I restart this service on the fly without issues? I only ask because I've never restarted that service.

There are some rare cases where this is an issue. As long as your at 3.5.0 update 2 it will not impact the VM's or host

You will have a disconnected time while the service restarts. Usually about 60 seconds or less.

Ok...well I am at that update level, but can always migrate my VM's to my other host and perform the restart of the service. Only 12 VM's total and two large hosts...overkill, but well worth it at times like this!

Yes, if your comfort level with this action is not yet established then moving the VM's is a great option.
