HP BL 490c G6

Is anyone using the HP BL 490c G6's yet. We tried to install esx 3.5 update 4 and after the install we can't see the internal SSD Hard Drives. I have contacted vmware and HP and I have no luck. I know that 3.5 Update 4 is supported but I don't know if the SSD with no raid controll is not.

Let me know we have a ton of these blades going into production and we are at a standstill

Evening,

Sorry to be asking a stupid question, but wondering if you could clarify some points for me.

I'm assuming the installation completes without issues. After this does ESX boot? If so, is the issue that you cannot see the SSD drives in order to create a VMFS volume from the space left? If so, then VMware does not support this configuration.

Thanks and kind regards,

Glen

I've run into the same thing.

Basically the drive shows up as an IDE drive so the vmkcore and vmfs partition cannot be created on it. The drive is recognized as hda instead of sda.

The install DOES continue, the server boots up fine and can be attached to a SAN via hba.

Everything seems to run fine with my setup. The ONLY thing I have concern with is that a vmkcore parition is not present. I've raised a support request and am awaiting some additional info. I'm fine with running it this way, I just want to make sure I'm on a supported platform.

What can go wrong without having a vmkcore paritition??
