HBA with SIM

Hi, I'm trying to monitor with SIM a lost of connectivity on my HBA (QLogic2342) and look like it does not work.with 3.0.1.

The agent version installed is 7.7.0 on my ESX server on a HP DL385 G1

If I pull one or both fibre cables behind the server, nothing happen on the agent (https://servername:2381) the status don't change, stay always at "no failed/degraded items "

Put if I restart the agent or reboot the sever the status change.

What I've done to install the agent(same thing as the Readme file):

\- ./installvm770.sh --silent --inputfile hpmgmt.conf

*Install the additonal libarie**

\- Stop the 'hpsmhd' and 'hpasm' agents

\- Remove the older corresponding libraries from he '/opt/compaq/storage/bin' directory. ('libdfc.so' for Emulex, and 'libqlsdm.so' for Qlogic).

\- Install the libraries which were downloaded the Qlogic libraries you might have to rename the library file. Use the following command to rename the library file - 'mv /usr/lib/libqlsdm-ia32.so /usr/lib/libqlsdm.so'

\- Restart the 'hpsmhd' service first using the command 'service hpsmhd start'.

Then, start the 'hpasm' service using the command 'service hpasm start'.

Did I forget something ?

Thanks !

Hello,

Well some things you should know about HPASM for vmware, it is not the complete HPASM as the vmkernel only exposes what it wants to the SC virtual machine and not everything the full HPASM needs is exposed.

The HPASM README states you will get some information but not all information.

I think it is time to open a hardware case with HP to get clarification on what HPSMH will report on vmware with regards to storage. I know I get some information on failed items on my SAN but not much other than that.

Best regards,

Edward

Hello,

I would upgrade to HPASM 7.8.0 and use the same technique and it seems to work for me. I get some messages about the Emulex HBA I am using but not much.

Best regards,

Edward

This is a known issue and has been documented in the README.txt file.

The status of Qlogic/Emulex HBA ports is not updated in system management homepage until you restart the hpasm service
