HA Failover Capacity

Hello All,

I have 4 ESX servers in a cluster that equals to 106 GHz CPU and 190 GB of memory. In the cluster settings I have "Number of host failures allowed:" set to 1. When I look at the "Summary" tab it tells me that I have "0 hosts" "Current Failover Capacity"

I can put any of the four in maintenance mode and still have enough resources available.

My question is: why do I not see the 1 hosts for the capacity failover for HA when I have it set? If I lose a host will my VM's not move?

From the Resource Management Guide - Pg 75 -

When computing required failover capacity, HA calculates the maximum memory and CPU reservations needed for any currently powered on virtual machine and calls this a slot. A slot is the amount of CPU and memory resources that will be sufficient for any currently powered on virtual machine (powered off or suspended virtual machines are not considered when calculating the current failover level).

So how many VMs do you have and are there any reservations set for the VMs or Resource Pools?

What you may want to try is to uncheck the HA option, wait a few then check the box again. Also, from your VC, make sure that in Licenced features that you have in your Add-ons, VMWare HA Licenced.

I have 135 VM's and all but 8 are powered on. I do not have any reservations set other then "Use cluster setting" which is set to "Medium" for "Restart Priority" and "Leave powered on" for "Isolation Response".

Also, I have removed HA and added it back and still the same thing.
