If you have vmware-tools installed within the VM then the IP address is displayed on the VM summary tab within the VI client.

Or at the Service Console as root type:

vcbVmName -h youresx.domain.com -u root -p 'password' -s powerstate:on[/code]

It is also possible to add the IP address field to the Virtual Machines view from within the VI Client. This enables you to see the address of each machine in list format.

From within the VI Client, (connected directly to ESX host or VC Server):

Go to the 'Virtual Machines' tab

Right-click on the field headers

Check the IP Address field option

If you know the name of the machine you could ping it via the service console and it will return the IP.
