Hey all,
We've been operating quite happily on a VI3 Cluster (5 Hosts, ~47 VMs) connected to a SAN. We've got about 5 LUNs associated with our Datastore ranging from 200 to 300 GB in size. I've not found much information on if I should leave any free space on our Datastore (no VM's are allowed to grow in size) so I've left ~30 GB on each LUN as a safety net.
Is it safe to say I can try to use this space, if not, how much would you all recommend I leave free on a LUN.
Thanks,
Roger
You'll want to leave sufficient space for the swap files for your VMs and for any potential snapshots you'll take. If the 30 GB free is will all the VMs powered on then you could consider another small VM assuming you're not planing to use snapshots, otherwise about 10% free space would be a good target.
Here's a previous post of mine that talks about this...
