File is locked, But the owner is owner 00000000-00000000-0000-000000000000

Last week, One Template file cannot deploy the VM, and report file is locked.

I convert this template to a VM, it cannot power on. the issue is the same.

I use vmkfstools -D , and tail /var/log/vmkernel, it prompt the owner is 00000000-00000000-0000-000000000000.

As I know, we have not any 00000000 UUID on the session.

Could you help me to unlock the file. thanks.

For your information. our ESX is 3.50-123630.

This should help you with the process of releasing the file lock... http://www.vmadmin.co.uk/resources/35-esxserver/90-vmfslockedfilerelease

Thanks your help. As the UUID is 000000000000, We cannot find any owner on this file. We cannot kill this session. even if we restart the esx server.

Right, We can power on or deploy this VM after reseting this LUN.

BTW, I have a question, it cannot work why we reboot the ESX. I think the lun will be reread after we reboot the esx server.

Thanks your great help again.

Because even if you reboot the host, the LUN doesn't get the SCSI reservation released - only resetting a LUN forcibly releases a lock.

Matt-

Will a lun reset affect other VMs that are stored on the same vmfs lun?

I have a template's VMDK locked, some of my production servers are on the same lun (I'm trying to move the template off the lun)
