Extending volume of a VM with esx 3.5

Hello - I've been searching/reading a lot of ways of extending a volume in a vm. mostly with vmfs tools or doing a V2V with converter.

I was wondering though, with esx 3.5 I was able to edit a powered off VM that is running Windows 2003 R2. Under Hard Disk -> Capacity --> there's a New Size option. After changing that to a larger size,

I was able to go back into w2k3 R2

and did the following

1. diskpart

2. List volume

3. Select <volume>

4. extend

It looks like it works fine, but I just wanted to confirm if anyone did it this way, and had any problems or using the vmkfs tools is a better method?

(FYI, the volume I'm extending it not the OS boot volume).

Both methods should be fine. Just make sure there is no snapshots for this vm to avoid corruption of the disk
