Error when starting VM stored on Windows-based NFS in VI3

I folllowed the directions here: http://tipstricksandmore.blogspot.com/2009/01/create-nfs-share-for-vm-iso-files-with.html

I can browse the datastore just fine, as well us upload files to it. However, when I add a VM and try to start it, I get the attached error ("Unable to retrieve the current working directory: Permission denied. Please check if the directory has been deleted or unmounted".

I cannot figure out what I have missed. Is the problem on the Windows based NFS side or ESX?

Thanks for any help.

Hello,

Also check out http://www.astroarch.com/wiki/index.php/Setting_up_Windows_Services_For_UNIX_%28SFU%29_NFS as this has some slightly different instructions.

Looks like your ISO share is read-only. Here's the part of the directions you may have used that may be the cause -- "You can make the share read only when adding the storage in ESX." at the bottom of the directions you posted. if you did that you won't be able to host VMs on that NFS share.

Also, you may need to to do User Mappings of Service Console users to Windows users (such as root to administrator mappings and then read-write checkbox for root).
