Error Migrating a VM Towards Another Esx

Hello,

When migrating a VM an error occurred:
A general system error occurred: Failed to Open the swap file

Have you any idea where it might come and how to resolve it.

Thank you all.

On your vCenter, ensure that yuou have configured a scratchfile location correctly

the setting you are looking for is : ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchlocation   (right click the esx host - the setting is under advanced settings I think)

Also, have a look at http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1004082&sl... for swap file best parctices (This is VM swap files)

Good luck

One day I will virtualise myself . . .

Check the swap file location whether its located in virtul machine folder or host itself or somewhere?

Swap file should be reachable by both source and destination ESX servers.

Thanks,

Ganesh

The swap file is stored with the VM which is recommended in acluster for better performance Vmotion.

@ Andre : Moving the VM to an ESX to another (vmotion) without moving the datastore

  • Remove your VM from inventory and add it back. Kick off the migration again.

  • Check the VMware tools status as well (It may be a cause of this problem)

Note: Don't select delete files from disk

Thanks,

Ganesh
