When trying to migrate a VM from one Local RAID datastore to another i get "FAILED: Operation not supported by the object", has anyone experienced this issue previously?
I am using SVMotion, and the VM is in a test enviroment i am creating so have tried to migrate in both a powered on and off state only to get the same error, any ideas?
SVMotion is supported only for shared storage (FC, ISCSI)...
You have to perform a cold migration if your VMs are on local storage!

I am new to all things VM, this was a project to try and familiarise myself with its workings. I did not know what Cold Migration was, and after some googling i am not really any wiser, though what i have started is a download of the VM to a local physical drive, which i hope to restore onto the other logical datastore. Is this a workable solution?
Thanks
Stephen
You SVMotion from local to shared storage, but not from local to local.

If the VMs are running local storage...
1. Shutdown the VM.
2. Right click VM, select migrate option..
3. In the destination tab. Select the required datastore. (make sure you have sufficient space to handle this VM)
4. Go through summary and click finish...
