ESX ranger restores

Just been reading the esx ranger documentation

I am reading this stuff correctly ? It can restore a vmdk whilst the VM is running ? I didnt think this was possible without corruption ?

Is this the case ? and if so are there other products on the market for ESX which also do the same thing ?

I understand this is not possible natively with just VCB alone

For my part didnt tried to restore a open vm.. that would seems a bit odd to me but i guess there is situation where you would need that? The mount vmdk option (to fetch specific file from the backup) work very good and (of course) can be done while the Vm is working.
