ESX host is down

We got an alert from Dell IT Assistant with the following message:

Date: 07/09/09, Time: 02:41:06:000

Severity: Critical, Message: System is down

We looked at Virtual Center but did not see any Tasks, Events or Alarms that reflect this.

We also looked at the following logs on the ESX host itself:

Vmkernel Summary

hostd.log

And did not find anything there either.

Where else can we look to find out more information about why this server went down?

Thanks,

Oops. We checked that as well. Nothing of note there either.

Any other ideas?

check root, if ESX went down it may have created a dump file. However, usually in these cases it's a hardware problem that causes a hard crash, so ESX may not log the event.

Do you have DRAC? If so, can you see if there were any events logged there?
